hi guys I’m welcome back for another video today my sister and I are going to be making some naked bars naked bars sell for up to a pound each and you can actually make them costing twenty P in this recipe in our house we don’t actually have a food processor so we are going to be using good old-fashioned elbow grease but of course it would be a lot quicker and a lot easier if you do have a food processor but let’s get started with the ingredients the original recipe said 60 grams of pecans but they are more expensive than walnuts so we went for sixty grams of walnuts 60 grams of unsalted cashew nuts ten medjool dates is stupid to buy pitted dates and depict them yourself we’ve got a huge box about the same size as my head from Sainsbury’s for three or four pounds which is very good for medjool dates half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon cow powder wasn’t actually in the original recipe that me and my sister wanted to add it along with the orange which isn’t actually an orange I believe it’s a tangerine so we’re going to use the rind of the orange and some orange juice from it too but a cheaper alternative for cacao powder would be cocoa powder I know in the US you don’t have these bars but don’t worry I am here to fix that this recipe will hopefully change your life these are all raw ingredients that are naturally yummy because of the natural sugars in it they are wheat dairy and gluten free and for all you vegans out there they are vegan friendly too now this is a step where you place the nuts into the food processor and blitz them up along with the module dates something what should have taken about 30 seconds a minute took us about 20 minutes but it was great therapy we did a lot of arm muscle movement and body strength whoo-hoo so I first started off by crushing them with the back of a rolling pin which then didn’t really work as they are just shooting out of the bowl and going everywhere my sister I do give her the credit for this she came up with a great idea of cutting them with nice big machete knife out this mixture you can make at least eight bars eight to ten I’d say we then did the exact same for the figs and cut them all up but the figs were more mushy once we’d pitted them and you could just kind of mash them up with your fingers for people with the food processor you just put the dates into it and just blitz it up as well Oh lovely that’s how date should be you could’ve bought a date block oh you tell us now yeah you might date look if your mixture is too crumbly then just add another day and you know remix it into the mixture in the original naked bar recipe there are raisins but we didn’t really want to use eggs my sister doesn’t really like raisin so that fine we just improvised we then realized we probably should have added in the cacao powder and the orange earlier but it doesn’t matter we did it here if you don’t like walnuts or pecans you can actually use peanuts or perhaps you prefer peanut butter and then just use one left shake or something I’m thinking of retrying this recipe and using peanut butter or even speculoos I know that will be just delicious it’s a little bit sticky at the moment due to the orange juice but we are going to add some cocoa powder or some cacao powder whatever you have how much mm-hmm also a fun fact you can store them in your fridge for up to three weeks ours don’t actually last that long but if we were to make a big enough batch then you know it’s nice to know that you can keep them for a good old month so now I’ve got a nice dough if you can cool it that and we’re just going to put it in a Tupperware box and flatten it out so it’s about 1 and 1/2 centimeters thick but ours was a little bit thicker but then when it came out we just sliced them in half we used the back of the spoon to push down all the corners so you know it didn’t go up at the corners and it was like a weird shape it was nice and flat my sister then scored it with her amazing knife skills then we covered it in some cling film before putting it in the fridge for they say 4 to 6 hours preferably overnight but we couldn’t wait that long we actually put it in the freezer for half an hour and then got a bit scared so we put it back into the fridge so then we took it out of the fridge after about 4 or 5 hours because we couldn’t wait any longer and it looked so good so then we had the issue of trying to get it out it wasn’t actually too hard we just recut the bars and sliced off the edges to make them all neat and then that meant that we got some little extras to try I know you only out for 10 days you don’t need anything else what why not Matt for you know there are 10 dates in there that day look just demanding food you are terrible here we have beautiful little montage here is my sister amazingly dropping the balls into the cacao powder we got our cacao powder from TK Maxx and HomeSense which is the weirdest place I’d never have thought I’d be able to buy it from there but you know just if you wonder it’s time for some of your tests my sister made something for you oh it’s dark I’ve been stolen by an alien let’s go ahead we had made some bars some fingers and some truffles oh my god you’ve got trouble on your face yeah that rub bit more I think I’m gonna try a truffle as I’ve already tried a finger it tastes just like a truffle I really like the orange I think I keep them you can’t really taste the cinnamon in it but the cashews are very nice the nuts give it a good crunch personally when I make this again I think I’m going to make the fingers as the bars are a little bit too big and this is actually very filling I now see why naked bars are so small but if you would like to make this then I’ll leave the recipe in the description box below and started with today’s video I’m going to share with you how to make three quick and healthy detox smoothies our first recipe is a lemon ginger and blueberry smoothie featuring organic sweet vanilla bean plant-based protein powder to make this recipe you will need water banana ice frozen blueberries or gaines vanilla bean protein powder ginger and fresh squeezed lemon juice add all of your oh boy grab a cup of tea and a notepad cuz this is gonna be a big one hey guys if I were to ask you what the best diet for weight loss fat loss muscle building was a lot of you to polish out paleo or vegan duh or keto makes you lose the most body fat or eat whatever you want as long as it hits your macros it’s all calories in versus calories out or because you all watch my channel a lot of you would probably say intermittent fasting is the best because it also has a bunch of other health benefits well you’re all wrong and in this video I’m going to explain what the best diet is to help you achieve your goals and why the diet that you’re following so religiously right now might not be the best option for you but before I get to the best diet for fat loss muscle building etc I have another book recommendation for you and I partnered with audible again to get it to you for free you guys know I listen to a ton of audiobooks I don’t really have time to read but I do drive a lot so listening to audiobooks about health and fitness allows me to learn a ton about health and fitness which helps me be more fit and healthy and in turn helps me be a better educator for you guys and I is how people love to put themselves in boxes in health and fitness and in life boxes make sense to us you’re either in it or you’re not and there’s a clear set of rules to be in the box the box life is the simple life it takes the decision-making out of your hand you have the vegan box where the only rule is to not eat animal products and the only rule Nikita box is to keep yourself in ketosis by eating low carb moderate protein and high fat and the only rule in the iifym box is to hit your macros everything else is fair game the thing about these boxes is that someone else wrote these rules based on their thoughts and opinions and only some cases based on science these boxes are very generic and you either have to cram yourself in or force yourself to mold to the shape it’s kind of like one size fits all clothing stores their clothes I fit the average person well but for most people they’re gonna be too big or too small or too short etcetera just like clothes the diet that’s gonna work best for you is the one that you tailor to your own body you have to build your own diet box so to speak and when you’re figuring out whether or not you should eat a certain food or a certain meal the question shouldn’t be is this paleo or is this vegan or is this whatever it should be is this food a good choice for me and my body to explain why this is so imperative I’m gonna paraphrase one of the most mind-blowing parts of wired to eat in a recent study hundreds of people were fed a wide variety of food and their individual glucose responses were attract over time and what they found was that there was a massive variation in the kinds of foods that people reacted favorably or negatively to in terms of their glucose response this is groundbreaking because it indicates that some foods create a healthy response in some people and an unhealthy response and others which indicates that a calorie is not just a calorie it shows that we can find foods that work with our physiology and eliminate foods that work against it the diet boxes while mostly well-intentioned lack the precision of personalized nutrition personalizing your nutrition it means you will be able to test specific foods to find out whether or not they are beneficial or harmful for your weight loss / health / fitness journey there may be foods you have deemed bad like rice and potatoes that you’ve been avoiding that your body actually tolerates really well and you would benefit from incorporating to increase diversity in your diet or there may be foods that you have deemed good that actually aren’t very good for your body cutting out or limiting certain foods that your body responds unfavorably to will allow you keep your blood sugar and Abbott in check and make it a lot easier for you to achieve your goals whether they be fat loss muscle gain or just generally being healthier and preventing disease so let’s break this down a little it’s gonna be a lot easier to lose fat and build muscle and just generally change your body if your body is functioning optimally if your body has to spend its energy healing or recovering or repairing itself from some damage it’s gonna be a lot less likely to want to lose fat or build muscle but if everything is optimized your body will be much less resistant to change repeated blood sugar spikes can cause all sorts of non optimal things to happen in the body it can lead to inflammation of blood vessels and organs food that causes blood sugar spikes often makes you feel hungry or faster and if a certain food that appears to be healthy seems to make your glucose spiked that could be an indication that you are intolerant to the food and/or you just have a very hard time breaking down and digesting that food which causes a lot of extra stress on the button and if you’re intolerant to that food that means your body is now spending its energy trying to fight off these little particles of the food that it thinks are foreign invaders and it’s not spending energy trying to accomplish what you’re trying to get it to accomplish none of this is optimal for achieving your goals and if you’re interested in like a more in-depth scientific explanation of how this relates to the gut and stuff definitely go listen to wire to each cuz Rob wolf explains it in many expanded chapters and it makes a lot more sense when he says it so let me go back to the best diet for weight loss it’s the one that’s designed around your body and your individual responses to foods not the diet that works for your best friend not the diet that works for your favorite celebrity or vlogger or Instagram star okay hopefully I’ve made my point that you have to build your own box and I haven’t defended anyone by essentially saying that you know strict to veganism or a strict paleo or whatever you’re doing might not be for you now you’re probably wondering Marissa how long are do I go about finding my perfect diet how do I build my own box where are the hammers and nails well friends just like everything else in health and fitness your number one tool for building your box is patient this might take a while and if your first reaction to that is screw this or you better give us a shortcut I highly recommend you go check out my video on the most important thing to remember when trying to achieve your aesthetic goals I’ll just hit myself in the face but hopefully get up there and down there I’m posting this video now because I have literally just embarked on my own journey to find my own perfect diet and I’m gonna take you with me so that we can figure this all out together for now I will lay out my step-by-step process that I built for myself to figure out my perfect diet but this will be subject to change as I go through this process phase 1 is going to focus around optimizing my gut health so that my body is primed to be sensitive to the different foods so I’ve actually already started this with a three week gut reset diet where the goal is essentially to just kill off any bad bacteria overgrowth that I might have in my gut and replenish all of the good bacteria I have indeed been vlogging this and will explain it more in depth in that video and how to go about it so make sure you subscribe to have notifications turned on etc if you’re interested in that from there I’m gonna go into a three day fast and fasting it gives the good bacteria a break from their digestive duties and allows them to kind of clean up and repopulate it also increases the diversity in your good bacteria and allows your gut to be more resistant to bad bacteria also gonna be blogging this to share my experience and tips so don’t worry yet you won’t miss the struggle that is Marissa doing a three-day bath then I’m gonna go into keto for approximately 5 weeks maybe longer if I feel like it’s going really well and I’m putting this in here because a I really wanted to do keto and after I go past the gut repairing phase I won’t be able to do it for a very long time and be because it actually does have some good gut benefits it forces you to essentially eat more fiber which is really good for the good bacteria and it also forces you to cut out or severely restrict a lot of things that feed the bad bacteria and are bad for your gut so that was phase one of the gut optimization phase and then phase 2 is going to be the elimination diet phase in this faith I’m going to be figuring out exactly which foods I should and should not be eating and I’m considering it maybe ordering one of those intolerance tests but I haven’t come across one that has any extremely good reviews and none of them are 100% accurate so I don’t really know if I want to waste the money on it but I might do it just as a little push in the right direction but regardless of whether or not I do that I’m gonna start with the protocol that Rob Wolfe lays out and it wired to eat which is essentially a paleo diet and doing a seven-day carb test using a glucose monitor and I may extend this a lot past seven days just to test a bunch of different foods but we’ll see from there what I do next is going to be slightly dictated by my results from the Paleo diet and seven-day carb test but I think I’m probably gonna do some sort of modified whole thirty and then to address some more obscure food groups um I do eight low fodmap diet and see how that goes and from there I’ll probably just try to eliminate things that I haven’t done yet like sulfur and thiols phase three is going to be finding the perfect macro ratio now that I have theoretically figured out all the foods I can and can’t eat I’m going to figure out what ratio of macros I should be eating for optimal body functions I get so many questions from people about what their macro ratio should be and most of them are along the lines of is a low carb diet good for you will low carb but make me lose fat faster can I do low carb and I’m just like well some people function really well on low carb some people function really well on low fat it really depends on what your body thrives on if you try low carb and you feel extremely sluggish and tired and your workouts suck that’s probably not gonna be beneficial because you’ll be moving a lot less you won’t be burning as many calories and your whole health is going to suffer because you just don’t have energy on the flip side you might be someone who functions really well on high fat and so doing low carb might actually give you a lot of energy and you’ll feel a lot less sluggish and then it will be really beneficial for weight loss so in this phase I’m gonna eat for a few weeks at the standard macro ratio percentage whatever and log how I feel keep a list of different things and then from there I me they’re gonna go to a low carb high fat or low fat high carb and log how I feel there for me and then do the complete opposite lot how I feel and then whichever one I feel best at I will go in the middle between that and the average and then I’ll slowly work my way to finding out what macro ratio works best for more again I will be making videos about that so if you’ve any specific questions about how to go about finding your perfect macro ratio that will be in those videos so if you follow me along you might have realized that I just laid out about seven or eight months of very carefully planned pretty restrictive diet you might think I’m absolutely crazy why on earth would I subject myself to this I’m already fit and healthy what is the point well I I have said that my whole purpose with my health and fitness journey is to make sure that when I’m 70 or 80 I’m still kicking ass in the gym and lifting weights and benching the heck out of everything and being just super fit and healthy and the best way to ensure that I think is to optimize your diet but also a big part of what is really pushing me and motivating me to do this and stick with it is that I’ve said before I have some weird skin issues that no doctors have been able to figure out and the last month I’ve had one of the worst flare-ups ever it felt like my entire body at greyscale about 80% of my skin it was either red or dry or bumpy or painful and most of it was itchy and a few days into it by the end of the day I was feeling like I had actually been like beaten up and abused and my body actually was covered in bruises and scratches because I had been scratching myself all over so hard and I just had a doctor’s appointment the other day and he was one of the least helpful doctors I have ever spoken to he offered one extremely unhelpful suggestion and then just referred me off to some people the most he could do was refill a medication that I do know makes it go away if I use it consistently for a few days but I have been warned by the people at CVS that if you use it a lot it fins your skin very quickly so in order to fix my skin problem I have to give my skin other problems and I’m honestly just fed up and done with it and no doctors have even tried to look into the root of the issue they just give me some other chemically thing to put on my body so I’m taking matters into my own hands to optimize my diet and hopefully either because my diet will be more optimal I’ll be more healthy and I’ll be able to fight off whatever this is that’s affecting my skin or I will actually eliminate whatever food might be triggering it so what I’m hoping to get out of this is a diet that is best for me and my body and one that prevents my skin from hating me and yes this will have to be changed every few years because your gut microbiome changes which affects what foods you tolerate so this was a very long video but it’s kicking off a new series so I hope you guys liked it [Music] two days post-christmas which means that we feel sick we’re very very full of Christmas food so we haven’t trained in three days literally we just sat down all day and eaten just do it all that Christmas stuff maybe today’s the day we get active again move our body but in true soufy and curt style we don’t just want to move a little bit we want to move a lot so what often trained separately because he does more bodybuilder kind of like weight lifting sessions and I do hips functional workouts but today we’re going to train together we can collaborate write up a session and this is going to be a get back on track blog starting with an epic work at all I’ve eaten for the last yeah week is free donut mix sure just chocolate he’s been having like M&Ms I’ve just been baking for people which means I eat half the butter before I give it to them so like we feel sick we’ve just been eating I’m sweating already I’m gonna get changed out of my skirt then we plan in my head what kind of session I want to do time to write up this full circuit with exercises remember always really hot so we’ve got after I put one see squats crab-walk chin-ups we’re gonna repeat that three times let me go to SEC 2 which is air bag ropes wall balls air bubbles we repeat that three times so it frees sleds garrix lat pulldown shoulder raises again oh whoa repeat let’s not do that let’s not do that for Road burpees barrels of the sit-ups go 3 times 30 seconds to 1 minute between each round we’ll see how we feel we want to make sure you’re doing every exercise to the best of your ability and we proper form and because we pick 12 by the 12 rep you want to be able to know [Music] [Music] first one down I’m pretty tired the mosaic fatigue so quickly look the world brutal like the best but they’ve just burped and to my chin ups I did tend I tried to attend every time so they were all assisted with like a resistance band but I feel good now so I’ve got one for me was a good warm-up and now I’m ready till I can kill it so we need to stop talking but then I get out of the mood ok your cardio fitness is way too good [Music] take it to complete if you’re not sweating off the circuit to then some wrong yeah even with the wall ball first try to like throw as high as you can and don’t just go through the motions don’t just like chocolate in the air forceful and impactful as possible shoulders are burning legs are cooked I definitely had it been on it too close to workout because I could like to feel my belly [Music] I move between sets dying and he says he are you kidding I’ve seen so much I should be like so shredded oh I feel better after circuit three then I did after circuit two yeah I just feel tired you’re dying burpees aim right but I love burpees I hate the roller hate the rope I like the roll hate burpees last one actually defeated really [Music] okay sure how’s good that was a really good session because I just had so much energy because I ain’t so much at Christmastime I know I had loads of energy eat too many snacks and not yeah my portion control yeah I really think that refined sugar is probably the one of the worse things you have in your diet so I feel horrible right now I’m just so sad right now like I really okay so obviously tip number one for getting back on track is smash out a big workout breaking a sweat and as Troy Bolton once said get your head in the game do you know what that quotes from high school musical you like there’s two reasons if you’re not in the mood to Train if your body is genuinely tired listen to your body and maybe you do need a rest day on the flip side feel like there’s this threshold honestly my most memorable and amazing workout is when I feel that threshold when I feel that bump and I’m like oh I can’t move others like I don’t want to do anymore if you just keep going and you overcome that little bump the rest of your workout is so so powerful and so much better so usually a cardio exercise that’ll get me through that threshold rolling through it the worst but it’s great and as I’m growing oh my god I don’t want to do it anymore and then if you just keep growing everybody becomes numb you just keep going and you’re like oh tip number two you’re getting back on track it’s always having healthy food accessible I’ve always said when I had my own apartment I would have a veggie patch Thank You Kodomo put my amazing Christmas present lemon tree lettuce beetroot eggplant capsicum would be so cool if I see a worm I’m gonna die I hate worms point taken we have like half analysis we have like half an hour you’re ready for this Susie good job says thanks I don’t know how to do it lovely Oh gotten enough in here it’s a gun for your team here [Applause] [Music] and then when you walk out the door you see lovely plants just need to hold yourself up while your water there mate welcome to it car of fun I like don’t like the separation like I can’t see you properly yeah it’s a coast of my family it for like five days our goal is to not go to the gym at all while we’re up the coast usually we can visitors pass to a gym and we’ll go to the gym every now and then think this year we were like way more functional and outdoorsy with our workouts so I think what it’s gonna do like my ebook runs and things like that for tip number three for getting back on track it’s all about that h2o life sprouts you even hydrate I can have a huge meal and I’m like why am I still hungry and I eat and eat meat and I’m like snacking all the time and then I realized it’s dehydrate and encourage people to walk around with like 1 liter of water everywhere I mean like even if you’re at home and you’re going from room to room bringing a water bottle bring it in your hand cuz you’re more inclined to drink it by the way today is the 31st of December so I need to solidify my resolutions I’m definitely going to put a water kind of resolution in the list why you going this way you go to the other way let’s take you south these guys north [Music] I wanna be [Music] that’s like heaven now I just ran into went to the bathroom following my journey for a while now you know that I was having some problems with my PCOS and amenorrhea and not having my period for like ten months got really really lame really low body fat percentage literally just living my life to look a certain way and now I’m Way more balanced and I’m at the age now where I obviously want to start thinking about having kids in the future my biggest focus has been getting my period back and bouncing out my body I cannot believe I just got my period always dreamed of the day that I could tell you guys oh my gosh like you would myself I did it through holistic practices and nutrition come we actually did it and I think I’ve ever been so happy to be bloated in my life this is gonna be the best 2018 of having really good our next activity is going to segue into tip number four this is kind of the tip so you can share it have an extra activity outside of the gym I’ve been through this where you feel like being active is only the gym and only training where it doesn’t have to be like that Kurt and I broke back to live very active lifestyles so yes we go to the gym and we train in we do circus but we also like to be adventurous and do fun things so Kurt’s gonna go surfing now I’m not gonna go surf you go to the gym that’s totally fine and I think gyms are awesome to get a really good sweaty session in if you only do the gym sometimes it can get boring and black stagnant so it’s important to do fun activities they tie in nicely with your workouts – totally let’s do it [Applause] [Music] [Laughter] we had a Mexican do that just because like why did we have a Mexican Dame why not this because
